Masterful point win

In the last game of the 30th matchday on Easter Sunday, FC St. Pauli played a strong game against the reigning German champions and deservedly earned a point in the 2024/25 season.

Tim has analyzed the game in depth in Millernton as usual and if you haven’t read it yet, you should do it. I'd just like to express my displeasure about the goal we conceded. Almost the same situation as in the last home game led to the opponent's opening goal. After a set piece and in what was essentially the first dangerous situation, Patrick Schick scored with an unchallenged header from the six-yard box. How similar the images are:

Gladbach's Itakura heads the opening goal from a free-standing position after a set piece in the last home game
Leverkusen's Schick heads the opening goal from a free-standing position

In both cases, the ball sailed over the heads of the centrally positioned players, and someone was unmarked in the seam. Sure, set pieces are a good way to score. St. Pauli demonstrated that frequently last season. This season, it's just that first-division teams are doing well, and goals can be conceded like that. However, the – perhaps coincidental – duplication of events in two home games is a bit annoying.

On the other hand, it's thanks to the Brown-Whites' excellent play that hardly any balls from the reigning champions from Leverkusen sailed towards the goal. And a yellow card for time-wasting in the 64th minute against Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky speaks volumes.

And what’s more, the equalizer also comes from a set piece – almost from the same position.

Otherwise, yesterday was a long day with a lot of work for my cameras. I would like to thank the FC St. Pauli Museum for the opportunity to photograph people with championship trophies. It's great that all time slots were fully booked during the four hours of the event. Thanks for your support in organizing this event – especially to Peter. And thanks to everyone who came along and participated in this photo event so relaxedly. In four hours, almost 500 photos were taken, which are now available for download in the gallery familiar to participants.
