No triple

The FC St. Pauli Women's First Team had the chance to win the Lotto Cup in Hamburg for the third time in a row. However, in a rematch of last year's final, they were unable to do so against the newly crowned Hamburg champions SC Victoria. It all started well, though.

The game was of course under different circumstances than last year's cup finalThe SC Victoria women's team has qualified for the promotion round as leaders of the Hamburg Women's Oberliga. They're on a roll, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for their first match on Sunday against Ahrensburg.

Today, everything initially went according to plan for the brown and white team. After a good quarter of an hour, the FC St. Pauli women's team was already 1-2 up after two defensive errors by SC Victoria. Just when everything seemed poised for another victory for St. Pauli, a first-class slap shot intervened. Brown and white goalkeeper Tara Zimmermann fired a clearance directly onto the head of a Victoria striker. Celina Witt quickly responded and pulled one back.

That a tough afternoon was to come became clear after two minor fouls by Linnea Taube. Within four minutes, she received two yellow cards from referee Jacqueline Herrmann and was consequently sent off. A far too harsh decision – and not the only error by the referee.

FC St. Pauli now played with a man down for over 50 minutes. SC Victoria recognized their opportunity and played even more on the counterattack. They were able to do this thanks to their good, fast players. Jana Bothmann equalized shortly after halftime, and Celina Witt skillfully curled the ball over Tara Zimmermann in the 79th minute to give the team a much-celebrated lead.

St. Pauli threw everything forward again, but they lacked the energy for concentrated action.

Congratulations to SC Victoria on their well-deserved cup win!

Thanks also to the official 4288 spectators, who, at least on the brown and white side, created an atmosphere worthy of a cup final. The Hamburg Football Association didn't even manage to include last year's FC St. Pauli Women's 1. team victory on the trophy.

This will also allow me to archive my photo catalog for the 2024/25 season. I wish everyone a relaxing summer break.
