Going into the winter break undefeated

The game between FC St. Pauli and Wehen Wiesbaden on the last matchday of the first half of the 2023/24 season is quickly explained: the oppressively dominant Brown-Whites run into a counterattack and only achieve a 1-1 result after three chances to score from their opponents. Another loss of points that feels like a defeat, but it isn't.

For the first 12 minutes there was no fan support at Millerntor – and in many other stadiums in the first and second leagues. 12 minutes as a reference to the 12th person on the team, which fans like to call. Unfortunately, the league officials are of very little interest in this, as can be seen from the decision to hire an investor. The Millernton has it all. In any case, the first 12 minutes at the Millerntor were eerie. Full house, only murmurs and the voices of the players and coaches could be clearly heard.

A similar silence could be heard in the 84th minute - the time of the goal.

Let's get to the positive things about the first half of the 2023/24 season: undefeated! This is really sensational! The team is rightly in a promotion spot. OK, we've only played the first half of the season - and as a long-time observer of the brown-whites, it's been a long time since I've seen two good half-series. Recently I had the feeling that the team was longing for a break and was mentally tired. Let's hope it's just that. However, it is to be feared that contract negotiations will begin at some point in the second half of the season and the team will then no longer show the unity that currently characterizes it. I would be happy to be taught something better.

Oh yes: for the statistics fans, I calculated the average points of our captains. We have two, but Irvine played significantly more often: he was on the pitch as captain for 13 of the 17 games. FC St. Pauli scored 23 points. With Marcel Hartel as captain, the brown-whites achieved 10 points in 4 games. Hartel's point average of 2,5 is better than Irvine's 1,77.

So, joking aside: I wish all FC St. Pauli fans a nice and relaxing winter break. Thanks for reading my blog posts from the games. I'm looking forward to an eventful second half of the season with you in 2024.
