Fireworks only at Werder Bremen

Finally a full Millerntor again. FC St. Pauli welcomes league leaders SV Werder Bremen. The game will end in a draw and from the point of view of the game, that's ok. What's not okay is how this 1:1 came about.

But first things first: as soon as the FC St. Pauli players step onto the pitch to warm up, it starts to hail. Luckily, this is just a brief interlude in the weather. Afterwards there is a colorful mix of sun and clouds. It's also colorful on the lawn because a lot of confetti has obviously accumulated during the pandemic.

After the kick-off of the top game against SV Werder Bremen, the players from FC St. Pauli were only decisive in the opening quarter of an hour. After that, the league leaders from Bremen took over the reins more and more. The impression is that a Bundesliga team is playing against an ambitious second division team. Nevertheless, the brown and white defense stands up and only allows a few shots. Ziereis is allowed to start again from the start and is the shadow of Bremen's top scorer Ducksch. That's why it feels like he only comes into two dangerous situations in front of the brown and white goal in the entire game.

Shortly before the half-time whistle, Daniel Kofi-Keyereh, who had been acting rather unhappy until then, struck. Paqarada had hit the wonderful cross. We went into the break 1-0 and I now have one of the many beautiful photos of Kofi-Keyereh celebrating.

The second half

This was followed by a second half that was more of a fight. Bremen are still superior in terms of play, but without a really clear chance to score. Tim from Millernton will certainly break it down tactically much better than I can. It's always interesting how I perceive the game differently through the narrow angle of view of my lenses. After the many games I have watched on TV over the last two years, this is now particularly clear to me on the sidelines. I see differently, but feel the game. Sounds a little crazy and I can't explain it better.

So I just noticed that something strange happened in the 58th minute. The situation is too far away. All I see is the Sankt Pauli player Beifus waving his arms violently after a duel and complaining about a handball. I'm still annoyed that he doesn't continue playing when the equalizer promptly comes.

Since a lot of people in the stadium saw a handball, I look at the reaction of the referee Florian Badstübner. He obviously gets a signal from the VAR and looks at the situation on the screen from a considerable distance for a very short time. He gives the hit. After looking at the TV pictures, this is more than just questionable.

Well, it is what it is, but it does have a flavor – in my opinion. And I'm not one to lightly blame a referee for a point loss.

Ultimately, the draw – as already mentioned at the beginning – is quite fair.

What else was going on? A bit of smoke and pyro on Bremen's side before the game and at halftime. I think it's good, there are nice pictures too.

The photographic aspect of the game

My cameras work in automatic aperture mode in the changing lighting conditions because I only specify the exposure time - and the automatic system determines the aperture and ISO depending on the light. Why make life harder than it has to be.

That could have gone wrong too

In addition to my usual Leica cameras, I'm using my new one for the first time LUMIX GH6 on the sidelines. I've heard that the autofocus isn't that good. Together with the Leica DG Elmarit 200mm / F2.8*, which comes with a matching converter, I sit on the sidelines at 560mm thanks to the crop factor of the mFT sensor. I had to get used to it because it's a decent focal length. But then it worked better and better and my yield was no smaller than usual. Baptism of fire passed...
