Just a few weeks ago, today's opponents 1. FC Nürnberg pulled away from FC St. Pauli in the 92nd minute the last bit of hope for a climb. Today in the 93rd minute we took the lead. The mood at Millerntor couldn't be more different.
The first matchday of the 1/2022 season actually came too early. The summer break was far too short, the women's European Championship is still in full swing and the transfer window is still open for almost 23 weeks. I was still looking forward to the restart. After almost two years of forced break due to corona, I now have permanent accreditation again and can regularly show pictures of the magical FC again. Interestingly, a game against Nuremberg was also my first appearance behind the band at Millerntor - in 7. I was all the more pleased that my new work card now has a picture for the first time. The person in charge took the trouble and downloaded a nice photo of mine from social media channels. A nice gesture – thank you!
Let's get to the essentials: the game. Emotional farewell to Ewald Lienen, wonderful choreo, powerful beginning. Everything immediately made me want to play football at the Millerntor. Nuremberg felt like they were superior, but they couldn't take advantage of the mistakes in the brown and white defense. FC St. Pauli showed how it works. As effectively as at the best of times, we led quickly and beautifully 3-0.
In the second half it was almost the other way around, but Nuremberg only scored twice. So at the end I report on a successful start to the new season. That's encouraging, but the season is still long. As far as I'm concerned, things can still go on like this.
The game is presented more eloquently in Millernton – reading recommendation.
