I recently had the pleasure of photographing Frances Uckermann as the new boss of designxport in HafenCity. The portrait now appeared in the February issue of HafenCity News, which also commissioned me to do it.
Since, for various reasons, I was only able to take the photo shortly before the newspaper's publication date, the layout was already ready - everything was waiting for my picture. Then there was the requirement to also integrate the rooms into the portrait.
Of course, none of this is a problem if you have someone in front of your lens who has, among other things, been involved in photography all her life. Frances Uckermann has not only worked as a creative director in all major publishing houses, but has also won the World Press Photo Award several times, as well as the Henri Nannen Prize for photography.
Design export is an institution of the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft to promote design and the city's creative industries. A room with around 700 square meters for exhibitions, events, workshops, experiments, discussions and interdisciplinary exchange on design issues. Frances Uckermann took over the management in July 2020.
I photographed my specimen copies in my favorite armchair. I find this very relevant to the topic of design. It's really comfortable and I love reading in it - and it looks great, don't you think? Here in the blog post I deliberately show you a different picture than the one printed. Otherwise you'll never have any reason to look at the newspaper anymore.
More in the HafenCity News
Speaking of another reason: in addition to my portrait of Frances Uckermann, two more pictures of me were printed in the February issue of the HafenCity News. At least I have 2 events photographed in 2020. One of these two events was a citizens' hearing on the new Science City in Bahrenfeld. This is reported in detail in the newspaper.
I wish the very likeable Frances Uckermann good luck in design export. Hopefully events and exhibitions can take place there again soon. I'm sure it will be worth a visit.
Hello, Stefan.
A really successful portrait.
What focal length did you shoot it with? I would guess 50mm? Are you actually comfortable with the camera strap on the SL? I'm always annoyed by how it twists endlessly, but I also regularly wrap it around my wrist :-)
Kind regards to Hamburg.
Kai
Hello, yes, 50mm – good eye :)
Regarding the strap: google Harry Benz – it works great for me. The only disadvantage: removing the strap is very difficult.
