Photographer Andreas Muhme Photographer Andreas Muhme

In front of Andreas Muhme’s camera

I recently received a great message from photographer Andreas Muhme, asking if I would like to take part in his project "Faces of St. Pauli". Of course, I had already noticed his great project, in which he portrays interesting people from the greatest district of Hamburg in crisp black and white. After all, I know many of the faces in his series and some have already been in front of my camera. Andreas is also a great photographer and a local. Now I should be a part of it...

Andreas replied to my reference to my place of residence around 50m from the gates of Sankt Pauli with the unbeatable argument that I was a St. Paulian at heart. As a result, I recently stood in front of Andreas Muhme's camera in the Corona-related improvised open-air studio. He has a cute portrait of me for him his gallery of faces from St. Pauli photographed. Andreas took another picture for his Facebook page, similar to the one for the series usual teaser does justice – and to me 🙂

Andreas is currently preparing an exhibition with the photos from this series for the post-Corona period. Of course I'm looking forward to it too. Once the portraits are printed, they will definitely look even better. Unfortunately, far too many people only view photos on websites on their small smartphone screens. I denounce that, but I probably can't change it.

Luckily, after his photo shoot, I was able to quickly persuade Andreas to take a return shot. And that despite his unusual eye patch, which he wore as a precaution because of an infection. His eyes are now feeling better again. You can see my quick shot at the beginning of the article. I have included my picture in black and white as a homage to his series my Leica Monochrom photographed. And in the background you can also see the improvised photo studio on location in the middle of St. Pauli.

Thank you Andreas for the honor of being part of the “Faces of St. Pauli”.

How refreshing to read this (also) from a professional...
Thanks for that and also for your other articles.

    I wish a good night,
    Kind regards from Basel
