Fish market and rain – a typical Sunday in Hamburg. At least that's how tourists imagine Hamburg. And that was actually the case today. The weather forecast predicted the rain would begin between 11 and 12. Enough time to experience the remains of the fish market. So I met Bjørn at the market manager shortly before 10 and just in time with the rain setting in, we turned our backs on the hustle and bustle in front of the fish auction halls.
I have my new old Leica Monochrom quickly taken to heart. During my hour at the fish market, I felt like I had arrived with her. Together with the 28, I plunged into the tight crowd. And gradually I found a way to tame the camera's 10000 shades of gray. In situations like this, a manual rangefinder camera is the best way for me to bring home the photos in a focused manner. Set the aperture, exposure time, distance and get started.
After a short warm-up stop in the best café in town we changed the location.
The rest was rain. And as you can see from the colors in the pictures, I took photos with the Leica SL2. The weather was really ideal for testing the splash water protection of the new Leica. The IP54 certification gave me absolute peace of mind when using the Leica in sometimes bad drizzle. The Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8-4/24-90mm ASPH used could not be thrown out of line either. But at some point my clothes were worn out and my gloves were cold and wet. At the latest when a reckless driver drove through a large puddle at a street intersection and above all Bjørn left completely soaked, it was time to call it quits. A warm couch is nice sometimes – on a rainy day Sunday in Hamburg.
Conclusion: crappy weather, nice time, great Sunday 🙂
Hi Stefan,
very excitingly written and garnished with very atmospheric pictures.
PS: Such a camera-lens combination will always remain my dream. Congratulations on that
