Yesterday evening there was a completely normal Bundesliga game and at the same time an anticipated decision for this year's German roller derby championship. Embedded in the international Kickass Cup, the Hamburg Harbor Girls met the Dresden Pioneers. The well-attended hall had already been treated to excellent roller derby all along, but this bout brought the hall to a boil. Rarely have I experienced such an intense game with suspense right up to the last second...
The Harbor Girls initially got into the game better and quickly led by almost 50 points. However, Dresden Pioneers pulled together and got closer point by point. After halftime they found the Harbor Girls' weak spot. This weak point was actually Hamburg's great strength: Jammer Knock'n'Rose repeatedly brilliantly powered her way through the opposing pack and collected a lot of points. Dresden Pioneers therefore tried as often as possible to prevent exactly these runs. A jam often ended quickly with a score of 0-0. Unfortunately, the Hamburg Pack player Ostblocker had also served too many penalties on the bench in the middle of the second half and had to leave the game completely.
Dresden Pioneers had adapted their tactics excellently to their opponents. A few minutes before the end they managed to change the lead. The decision had to be made in the last jam. It was 172:173 from the perspective of the Harbor Girls, who threw everything into the balance with Knock'n'Rose to take the lead. Unfortunately, Dresden came out of the pack first and ensured that no more points were added.
An absolute heart-stopping finale and absolutely worthy of a final for the German championship. Yesterday, all of the spectators probably saw the best roller derby that can currently be seen in Germany. Congratulations to Dresden!
