Don't put the brakes on euphoria

The first home game of a new season is always something special! Everyone has been waiting for this moment and you can feel it every minute in the Millerntor. I'm there early too and see how the new striker Henk Veerman has the stadium explained to him. Many fans I talk to are particularly euphoric because of last week's away win. The other results of the evening mean that the word "league leader" is being used a lot even before the game. But before that there are 90 minutes of football against SV Darmstadt 98, against whom the boys in brown and white have not looked particularly good in recent times. At least they're bringing good music...

The game begins with a great confetti inferno and the first 45 minutes belong to the guests and Himmelmann. Thanks to him and a great team performance, with Buchtmann also helping out at the back in defense, there is no deficit. At halftime there are slight changes and the ball runs better. Darmstadt hardly gets anything going and Neudecker and Møller Dæhli sprint to the baseline again and again. The deserved and redeeming 1-0 is exactly the same: Møller Dæhli radios from the baseline over everyone and Neudecker (1,74m) is so free that he can score the goal with his head.

After that, Darmstadt couldn't think of anything, got stuck in defense and allowed themselves to be countered. At first it was a bit of luck because Allagui looked too closely at his teammates and pushed the ball a bit too far. But then again it is Neudecker who can pass the ball across to Buchtmann at the 5-point. He then has no trouble making it 2-0.

Of course, some fans are going crazy in their euphoria. It's interesting how many people sing along to the testosterone-charged Ultra song from the number 1 in the city and whistle at the same singers again at the next pyrotechnic event. It's the second match day and of course I'm happy too. But if you don't step up now, it won't be worth anything. Football is a damn fast-moving business. That's why I found it very nice that the team didn't join in the singing.

In general, the team seems to be a team again and working for each other. That's actually the best statement about this match day.

Exactly! Whatever happened to the boys in training camp, it really caught fire! 🙂
