I never thought I would get the opportunity to photograph a German national team. But recently it happened. And so today I can present to you the German national roller derby team.
Fortunately, the first bout of the newly formed “Team G.” was in Hamburg. Even luckier for me was that Miss Zophie from the team of Harbor Girls remembered that I can operate a camera. What an honor to be able to take the first photos of the new team with Germany's best roller derby players!
Of course, it wasn't nearly as glamorous as it would be for a national team. So there were only two jerseys, which were then swapped in turn for the photo. Since the short photo session between the team meeting and warming up for the bout took place in a small corner of the sports hall, some helmets had to be swapped with each other. Unfortunately, not everyone in the team was able to attend that weekend, so the portraits aren't entirely complete - but I was able to photograph the majority.
So let me now introduce you to the German national roller derby team - if you click on the pictures you will also see their names.
The big goal of Team G. is the Roller Derby World Championship in Manchester at the beginning of February 2018!
After the photo session there was a bout with the national team. Since such a team has no opponents in Germany, they jammed against each other: Team G. white against Team G. black. Despite only a few days of training, it was a thrilling fight at a high level. Team black ultimately won with 161 to 111, although team white was also ahead at one point. However, the result of the bout is really irrelevant. What is much more important is that the national team got off to a good start in roller derby.
Of course I also took a few pictures of the bout. And here you can see that very few people wear the jersey of the German national team. Not all the jerseys were there yet...
