Kodachrome preset for Lightroom

Classic K14 64 basic minus blue

With one attached to the old Kodachrome 25 and 64 films Lightroom Preset by André Duhme for €9,99 you can achieve great results with just a few clicks.

As you know, I'm not a fan of Lightroom, but I love the preset that I put together with great care Andre Duhme I started the program again. I like the Kodachrome 64 preset that I use for Capture One I use it for many of my pictures. I asked André if I could test out the differences and similarities to Lightroom myself. Hence the disclaimer: André made the preset available to me free of charge, but did not attach any conditions to it. However, I was so impressed by his work that I would like to write this blog post about it and show you a few examples.

Of course, a preset can never imitate a film. Light activates a sensor that responds to zero and one unlike analog material where a chemical process occurs. Nevertheless, André's Lightroom preset comes very close to the previous look of the legendary footage. What is much more important to me, however, is that André managed to give RAWs a harmonious mix of colors and contrast with just a few clicks. Those who take photos often want to convey a mood. And that is exactly what is successfully implemented in this Kodachrome Lightroom preset.

Here are a few examples that were implemented with one to a maximum of two clicks using the Classic K14 Lightroom preset. (Just click to enlarge!)

As you can see, the Kodachrome preset copes well with many different lighting moods. With just a few clicks you can create an atmospheric JPG from your RAW. I still remember how I used to regularly fail at photo editing. There are always too many controls and options in these programs. With this preset things would have been much easier. And seriously: VSCO is far too extensive and complicated and also far too expensive in comparison. However, I don't know how expensive André Duhme's Classik K14 Lightroom preset will soon be.

Of course, one-click editing doesn't always work with this preset either, because Kodachrome is very sensitive to blue tones. If different artificial light sources come into contact with each other, this can become a problem. Here is an example of such a problem and how a second click in the preset tries to solve this problem.

With this example I can also show you why I don't edit my digital images with Lightroom. I use Capture One and have that too some presets Bought one that tried to replicate the Kodachrome 64. I used this to edit the RAW above and came to this result.

In my opinion, Capture One does a much better job of successfully relating the different color nuances to one another while also maintaining the three-dimensionality of the Leica lens. Even if that Learn Capture One is really no easy task, the program remains for me the best RAW converter. There is also one from Capture One trial version, maybe you should try them out...

But that doesn't detract from André's successful work on his Classic K14 Lightroom Preset.

      1. The price difference has now shrunk to a few euros, as the price for André's preset today (09.05.2017/18,99/XNUMX) is €XNUMX and has therefore almost doubled.

But thank you very much for the nice review :-)!

      2. hi sir…what preset have you used for the above photo from capture one? it looks the same as Classic K14 Lightroom Preset but the colors are even better!
