But hatuezi pika uji bila Maji (Translated: You can't cook porridge without water)
The time has come: the magnificent song that was created during the project trip with Viva con Agua in Uganda has now been released. The title "Sema" is Swahili - the common language in East Africa - and means something like "say it". The first meeting of the six musicians - Octopizzo from Kenya, Maro and Bobi Wine from Uganda, Knackeboul from Switzerland and Megaloh and Ghanaian Stallion from Germany - took place in the Karamoja region, where Viva con Agua Kampala was performing on the occasion of World Water Day. Welthungerhilfe water projects and prepared two festivals. Despite the very different styles of the artists involved, “Sema” was a wonderful, well-rounded song. As soon as the rough version was carried into the Ugandan night by a large group of our travel group via a smartphone, everyone started Passengers spontaneously start dancing.
Why don't you see / when you have the eyes
With the song and the video, the artists want to generate attention for the water and sanitation projects supported by Viva con Agua. In the time between the Uganda trip and the release of “Sema”, I noticed in our internal travel WhatsApp group how much love everyone had put into this song. And of course, it is not just the musicians who are involved in the song: Marvin from Klabautermann images shot and edited the video, Bobbie Serrano and Björn Holzweg painted the artwork for the cover, Claudi coordinated all the press work in an inimitable way, Anne did the same in Uganda,... It felt like that our entire tour group involved.
Capital knows no borders / The resources get asylum here / But what about the people?
I'm happy to have captured perhaps the coolest making-of photo during the video shoot 🙂

And Here you can find a making-of video on the creation of “Sema”.
By the way, you can hear Knackeboul from Switzerland as the opener on Herbert Grönemeyer's tour in the next few weeks.
