No cup sensation

After 10 minutes it actually looked like a cup sensation. Linda Sellami completed the FC St. Pauli women's first attack with a remarkable chip over the Bergedorf women's goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Unlimited cheers from the 1122 spectators - well, probably only among what felt like 1000 Sankt Pauli fans who gave the cup final a more than worthy setting.

Unfortunately, the cheering didn't last long and the Bergedorf women lived up to their role as favorites. They turned the game around before halftime. And after ten minutes of the second half, a counterattack in the middle of the pressure phase of the brown and white girls ensured the early decision. In the final second, Tara Zimmermann was able to fend off a remarkable penalty in the FC St. Pauli goal. Despite the 1:3 defeat, the women from FC St. Pauli were able to feel like they were winners.

The most beautiful scene in the game: Vanessa Hamed from Bergedorf 85 quickly carried the injured FC St. Pauli player Kathrin Miotke off the pitch. Winner of the Super Fair Play Cup – if there is one.

The most beautiful scene after the game: The brown and white fans celebrated the players long and loudly.

Rarely have I left the pitch with such a big smile despite defeat. And I think the women in brown and white were able to make peace with the afternoon...

  1. Yes, it's a shame - there was more to it. When you talk about the role of favorites: the Bergedorf women only lived up to that because they were cleverer and perhaps more alert when it came to taking advantage of their chances. Otherwise, I saw significantly more play from the Brown and Whites.
The attack before the 1:1 was basically already blocked and if the defense consistently moves out, the ball never gets in front of the goal.
The Bergedorf women's opening goal is preceded by a pointless lamentation about the throw-in (when has a referee ever changed his mind?) The Bergedorf women take the lead quickly and while the St. Pauli women are still complaining, the bell already rings.
The 1:3 was a great counterattack after losing the ball just outside the opponent's penalty area (a high ball in front of the goal would probably be the better choice)

But if you're happy, so am I - great women's football!
