Web Monday Hamburg at Tchibo

Last Monday I was once again there for the always great and interesting event series “Web Monday Hamburg“ on the camera. Web Monday is a non-commercial and volunteer-organized event with several speakers on a topic. I am always very impressed by the professional events that Kirstin and René organize on the side.

Of course, the success of Web Monday Hamburg is due to the speakers and the location. I cannot make a judgement on the former, as I have no idea about the topic of “newsletters” being discussed this time. However, I did notice that, for example, the lecture by Tilo Timmermann – one of the managing directors at Tsching, Derassa & Bum – was received very entertainingly. Another indication of a successful Web Monday is that the hashtag “#wmhh” reached number 2 on Twitter among the trending topics in Germany.

For the first time, Webmontag Hamburg took place on Tchibo's premises. And those responsible at Tchibo have put in a lot of effort. There was space for around 180 guests in the rooms and a really great buffet was also served. I have full respect for that - this is how you advertise yourself positively as a company.

However, the lighting conditions in the lecture room were not so great. There was practically no light on the stage for the speakers.

Such lighting conditions are much more noticeable to photographers than to the audience present. The human eye can compensate for these differences in brightness much better than a digital camera can. It is not without reason that one of my favorite statements is "photography means solving problems." I understand my work to mean that I attract as little attention as possible with my work and can still provide the event organizer with good, atmospheric images. The simple solution to solving the lighting problem is therefore out of the question for me: flash is not an option.

Instead Forest If I use the available light, I look for suitable positions and wait for the right moment. Here is an example for the already mentioned speaker Tilo Timmermann.

Every speaker turns to their presentation at some point. This is the optimal time. The presentation area is a large light source and produces a flattering light for the speaker. Problem solved.

By the way, the entrance photo at the top shows the situation at the entrance. All more pictures of the event You can find it on the Webmontag Hamburg website.
