Day of Destruction #10

On Saturday I was allowed erneut with my camera at the ring to take photos at the great kickboxing event "Day of Destruction". This event has been held for the tenth time in the Wandsbek sports hall and boss Ralf Stege and his crew have really brought first-class sport to Hamburg again. I have rarely seen so many good and close fights. I have rarely been able to take so many pictures that I would consider successful - and that was really less down to me than to the great fights.

The event is so high-class that it is presented in a TV-like manner with a Chinese ring announcer. In addition to the Super Prestige Fight between Leo Bönninger and Yi Long, who already stood out last time with his extremely hard punches and was dubbed "the monk", there were three real titles at stake. Johann Dederer and Dennis Wosik, as well as Kim Leinz and Liu Xiangming each fought for a German Championship. Danijel Solaja against Dima Weimar was even fighting for a world championship title. But all the other fights were also intense and fought with a will to win.

I've put together the most beautiful punches, kicks, KOs and cheers in a small gallery. However, if you tune out boxing on TV because you don't want to see people who could hurt themselves, then you should avoid the gallery. The pictures show real sport and not that softened interruption of the infomercial that you see on TV. Despite the toughness that can be seen, K1 is characterized by fairness and sportsmanship. Well, maybe apart from Liu Xiangming, who celebrated exuberantly in the ring while his opponent was still struggling with the knockout.

Ralf Stege really put together a thrilling fight evening. It remains to be hoped that this event will take place often in Hamburg. I like the sport. And if you can see K1 live in this quality, a visit is really worth it.

    1. Well, when it comes to available light, most people probably understand something different. 😉 Since the fights were also filmed for (Chinese) television, the lighting in the ring was very good. I didn't bring any additional light.
