My first record cover

Audio book cover image

The first audio book from the renowned Hamburg label Grand Hotel van Cleef and I was allowed to contribute the record cover! What an honor...

I was very happy about this request. And I could also get over the fact that I wasn't supposed to take a sharp photograph of Rainer Wulff.

Rainer Wulff is the voice at Millerntor. The long-time NDR journalist has been the stadium announcer at FC St. Pauli since 1986. The audio book “From Round to Square – Rainer Wulff LIVE” shows the stadium announcer legend as a masterful satirist and passionate performer: stories from the penalty area of life, with and without the ball, presented by Wulff himself and three performance-experienced guest authors who contribute their own texts. The proceeds of the Audiobook from 3CDs will benefit the future FC St. Pauli Museum and will go to the non-profit support association 1910 - Museum for FC St. Pauli eV

Despite the rather unspectacular presentation of the photo, it was not that easy to create. After all, the title of the audio book wasn't even finalized when the photos were taken. So how much space should there be for text on the album cover? Luckily it was Christoph Nagel as someone who held the strings for the audio book in the background. We repeatedly looked at the possible variants together on my laptop and refined them. Ultimately I misused Christoph as a VAL – voice activated lightstand. Thank you, Christopher!

Audio book title Rainer Wulff Live

Because of course the picture is flashed, even if you might not see it at first glance. The contours of Rainer Wulff's face would have become almost invisible without the flash. And even if it is shown out of focus, viewers of the audio book should still be able to recognize it.

By the way, there is one on November 7.11.2014, XNUMX Release party with live lectures from the CD in the fan rooms (all information). The perfect opportunity to finally get an autograph from the voice at the Millerntor...

  1. Grand Hotel van Cleef and Stefan Groenveld… that fits together and immediately catches my attention. I don't really have a connection to St. Pauli, but I'm looking forward to future photos from you for record covers by Thees, Wiebusch etc.
Furthermore, I think the cover is very well done. Photographing with the right amount of blur is certainly an art.

  2. Congratulations Stefan, cool project. Our stadium announcer from our Graz99ers ice hockey club in Graz could also "use" something like that. He's actually a legend in Graz too!

  3. Hi Stefan,
what a coincidence: I just spoke to Rainer on the phone about the audio book and a story I want to do with him about it. There I find your blog posts and the cover photo. Very nicely done. Of course I will mention that in my story (it's still a while away).

I am a big Rainer Wulff fan, not of football, but of his opera presentations. He does it really well.

Unfortunately I can't be there at the release party, I'll do my story independently. Otherwise we would definitely have bumped into each other there in person.

PS: Nice blog design by the way. Otherwise I only read you in the feed reader and only go to the page when I want to comment. That was long ago. For short-sighted people like me, the font and presentation are optimal.
    LG, Suzanne
