Last Saturday it was that time again and the wonderful event “Get in the Ring” had great kickboxers compete against each other in the Audimax. For me, luckily, it was just “get an the ring"…
I have been accompanying this event since its new edition in the Audimax and like the family atmosphere and the fair, sporty interaction between the fighters. It was no different this time either. It was a bit of a shame that one of the top pairings, Max Baumert and Dima Weimer, had to end in the first round. Dima had a cut on his eye and was bleeding heavily. The bleeding was only stopped shortly before the award ceremony.
In addition to the aforementioned cut, there was also a dislocated shoulder for Miftar Smajli and an open wound on the back of Ashkan Gohar's head. At this point I wish everyone a speedy recovery. Luckily, Ashkan didn't let the hole in his head stop him and won his fight just before midnight. Afterwards, the crowd favorite celebrated with his numerous fans.
That doesn't surprise me, because Ashkan kills his opponents in the ring with his looks the first time they meet before the fight in the middle of the ring - and is an extremely friendly person outside the ring.
This time I only armed myself with my Leica at the ring. I had no assignment and really only had an obligation to myself to bring home fancy pictures. So I took advantage of the rare opportunity to see what happens in a fast sport without autofocus. Even though I managed quite well to follow the fighters in the ring with an open aperture of 1.4 with the 24mm Summilux, I now know that my concentration slowly began to slip in the second part of the evening. In my defense I can only say that I did before photographed in the Millerntor have. What was pleasing for my post-processing was that I took far fewer pictures than usual. I concentrated on the action on the ring and only took the shutter once with the Leica M. With the D4, thanks to 10 frames/second, the temptation to rely more on the camera than your eyes is much greater. Conclusion: not even a third of the activations than usual. And fortunately the keeper ratio is still higher. In the gallery above you can see my favorite pictures of the evening. Oh yes: the picture with the awesome lens flare is of course with that Nocti made…

very!
Very cool pictures!
Bravo Stefan. Cool shots as always – you can see the professional.
