Fritz Pölking Prize 2014

I'm not really into nature photography, but when I was looking at it Winner's website When I looked at this year's Fritz Pölking Prize from the Society of German Animal Photographers, I spontaneously got tears of happiness in my eyes. Well done, Urtzi Vera! Nature can be so beautiful.

The Society of German Animal Photographers has very high demands on competition images. Fritz Pölking was one of the founders and a pioneer of modern animal photography. He died in 2007. The prize is awarded annually in his honor.

However, I found the photos of the winner of the Youth Prize even more impressive than the bright gold of autumn by Urtzi Vera. 22 year old Michel D'Oultremont photographed black-necked grebes well before sunrise or at sunset. Please take a look these pictures at. So many beautiful animal photos.

I spontaneously remembered my pathetic attempts at similar ones ducks Grebes on the Alster to photograph. Sure, my pictures are just snapshots. Michel D'Oultremont has captured epic masterpieces on the chip. Cheers!

  1. And what kind of weather were most of his fantastic photos taken in? perfect in rain, fog and bad weather! I'm already waiting for the next foggy day to disappear into the forest again. 😉

  3. I even have a great illustrated book by Fritz Pölking. "Digital Nature Photography in Practice" from Kilda Verlag. I can only recommend it to any nature photographer or anyone else.
