I never understood the hype about Materia aka Marsidingsbums. Hip hop and Rostock? Two reasons not to listen to this. Then came the ZGidZ2 video teasers from Paul Ripke with wonderful images from distant, interesting cities. I found watching these videos without sound silly. I found the videos worth watching primarily because of the fantastic images that Paul captured on site in just a few hours - and which, in my opinion, convey a suitable atmospheric mood of the country we visited. One of my highlights were the shots from Lukla in the Himalayas, the start of the climb to Mount Everest. Since the video, I think about this video every time I cycle around the corner from the Buddhist center. The other day there was the right lighting mood that prompted me to take the picture above. I ask you to see my picture as a small, insufficient homage.

The corresponding album by Marteria I eventually learned to appreciate it. Besides the usual “Kids” and “Bengal Tiger”, which probably every listener of the CD appreciates, I also like “Louis is coming”. I just always skip the last piece after the first few bars…
