A special honor: wedding in the south

When the first contact was made, I was glad that it was in writing. I probably wouldn't have understood a call from near the Swiss border in the Basel region. And then I might have missed out on this special honor that photographing this wedding gave me. The bride and groom, Kathi and Sami, originally wanted to get married a week later, but by then I was already fully booked with two other weddings. So the wedding date was moved forward a week. Phew! A huge honor – and luckily I can handle the pressure of expectations quite well 🙂

The hospitality of the couple and their families knew no bounds. Rarely have I been as much of a guest at a wedding as I was at this one. I have very fond memories of the weekend in the Black Forest. The celebration took place in the bride's parents' garden. There was an incredible amount of love, work and sweat put into this wedding - the preparations were carried out almost entirely on our own.

It was also very interesting to see the inside of a Catholic church in southern Germany and to experience the service in the St. Martin Church in Wehr. Comparing the length of a wedding ceremony between Hamburg and Wehr is probably analogous to Las Vegas and Hamburg...

The wedding took place on the hottest day of the year - the thermometer climbed to 33°C that day, in the shade of course. And when I was at the next wedding a week later, I received a text message from the bride: "It's a good thing we got married last weekend. It's been raining all day here..."

I definitely have fond memories of this wedding in Wehr. Not only because of the incredible honor of being able to photograph this wedding, but also because of the warmth that I was able to experience in the Black Forest. That's why I'm only showing the pictures today. I kept looking at the wedding photos and reminiscing myself. I didn't really want to let go of these pictures because I don't know whether the wonderful hours that replay before my inner eyes when I look at the photos will also affect those who are not involved.

I can only hope that I can see Kathi and Sami again at some point in order to give back a little bit of the cordiality and warmth I experienced...

  1. Hi Stefan, it was fun looking at the pictures. My absolute favorite picture is the one from the church where you focused on the child sitting between the pews (59). A great picture! LG, Connie
