Ashkan Gohar vs. Frank Madsen

And then it was 10 to 12 at night at “Get in the ring"when the climax of the fight evening was about to take place and I could only take one photo of the fight for the Intercontinental title...

Ashkan Gohar entered the ring against Frank Madsen. The two had already faced each other around 15 months ago, but in Madsen's adopted home of Denmark. To the surprise of many, Gohar knocked Madsen to the floor in round 1 and won the title. Gohar from Hamburg has been a celebrated local hero for many years and in 2009 he had to painfully experience at "Get in the Ring" what happens when you dominates a fight and suddenly gets hit hard. I saw Frank Madsen in combat for the first time in the same year as he had a later one groom sent to the boards.

Now there should be a rematch between the two experienced fighters for the Intercontinental title.

I knew beforehand that the hall would be really full because no one wanted to miss this fight. So I decided to take some overview shots at the start of the fight. A photographic plan that almost backfired. But one after anonther:

23:50 p.m.: Frank Madsen enters the hall.

23:51 p.m.: Ashkan Gohar enters the hall.

23:52 p.m.: Referee Marco Broersen asks the two opponents to come to the middle of the ring.

23:53 p.m.: The fight begins. I take two pictures with my 16mm fisheye from behind to get an overview of the excellently filled hall and run back to the ring.

23:54 p.m. and 27 seconds: I changed the lens and took a nice photo of Ashkan Gohar's knee action with the 24-70mm.

23:54 p.m. and 40 seconds: The experienced referee stops the fight and treats a laceration on Frank Madsen's nose. The ring doctor who was called also found that Madsen had a broken nose. The fight is over.

23:55 p.m.: Ashkan Gohar gets to celebrate.

Phew, that was close. And here are the pictures…

Learning: With such a fast sport, always expect it to happen quickly...
