Draw in handball

I don't even know how long it's been since I've been there HSV handball photographed. There came the northern derby against Flensburg-Handewitt just right. And I was also able to run my new 400 for the first time. This focal length opens up new perspectives. That's how big the difference would be compared to my previous 340mm (200 mm 1,7x converter) not expected. Of course, just the 2/3 aperture gained helps because I can turn down the ISO number a little. But it is faster and sharper Die Linse at that too.

The handball game itself was highly dramatic, especially thanks to good goalkeeper on both sides. And it was pretty tough, but not particularly unfair. Ultimately it ended in a draw - from a neutral perspective I think the points were shared fairly. However, HSV already had the trump cards in hand to win shortly before the end.

I was a little nervous before the game because I hadn't played handball for a long time - and the sport isn't that easy to photograph. However, you get during the game very many opportunities to make it better. The scenes in front of the goal are - compared to football - very common. Overall, I'm quite happy with my pictures - I ripped off one or two game scenes, but I captured the emotions quite well. Ultimately, you just need a little practice. Let's see when I next have time for a handball game.

  1. I also took photos of basketball recently. Using a 70-200mm f2.8 with a VF Canon. I would be interested to know how high you really set the ISO? ISO4000 is quite a feat. You often only find a dark hall, especially at this time of year.
