Film moving objects with the Nikon D800

When I first got into filming on a DSLR two years ago, I some problems moving objects smoothly to be able to represent. Thanks to many helpful comments, I had quite a steep learning curve with my Nikon D7000 back then the problem will soon be under control.

Now of course I wanted to know how Filming with the Nikon D800 functions. Quick conclusion: completely problem-free. Here are two short examples. If you press play, you can activate full-screen display by clicking on the arrows at the bottom right of the video.

Both films were made from free hand So without a tripod and also without VR anti-shake in the lens – a Nikon, by the way AF-S 24mm f/1.4G. It might be helpful both Videos View directly on Vimeo in full screen. I find them Sharpness of the Nikon D800e comes into its own quite well here – or am I just praising the camera?

  1. In the film above you can see something flickering on the red one, I assume these are fluorescent tubes / energy saving lamps?

Do you still have the anti-flicker thing on automatic, or what kind of exposure time was used for filming?

    1. Yes, fluorescent tubes. The flicker reduction was set to automatic and I chose 1/50s as the exposure time. Of course I could have mentioned it in the text. So: thank you for the request.

  2. First of all, I would like to say that this website is really very interesting and is a lot of fun to read. About the videos: I've already tried out the D800 and have to say that it makes filming very easy. You were talking about the spiciness – and it’s really excellent. You can definitely reduce the flicker by selecting 50Hz for flicker reduction.
