New blog design

He's doing everything new... well: after about two and a half years it was just time for my blog to look different. And then I jumped this topic in front of my eyes and immediately I just had to implement it. I also have the database heavily cleared out and otherwise neatly swept through. Pages are now created around twice as quickly as with the old layout.

And almost ULDThis blog is compliant: despite social media linking options, my site does not automatically connect to Facebook and co. If you want to like or add a blog post, you have to activate this functionality first. And again on the next visit. I still formulated the data protection declaration as if it were automatic - better safe than sorry. And to be honest: as much as I love social media, the data octopus also annoys me. However, I haven't managed to get the data protection declaration to be accepted when activating the social media services. And it has to go somewhere Usability still be guaranteed. Disadvantage for me: in the future I will no longer know how often which article was liked...

In my old blog, the rigidity of the image management system annoyed me at some point and I didn't have a sensible one Alternatives found. Already. Other images will now find their way to the homepage and in the future there will also be larger images here because I am no longer tied to the layout width of the blog. You now have the option of having my pictures automatically scroll past you as a slideshow. Couch mode so to speak…

I also think that my photographic versatility is better highlighted by the new design of the blog.

Ultimately, I like this theme because it is so wonderfully simple and yet playful. And at Play I wish you a lot of fun 🙂

  1. Very nice, Stefan!
The only point: In the gallery view of a post, the thumbnails should be actual small thumbnails and not a shrunken version of the full view. It loads faster and looks better.

Otherwise you can definitely do it that way :)

    Best Regards

    1. I'm happy, that you like it.
You can see it either way with the preview images. Of course you are right that at first glance it would load faster, but if you look at all the images anyway, loading the large images directly is faster 😉

      1. OK, I thought about it again and, especially in blog posts with lots of images, the amount of data that needs to be downloaded can quickly add up to a factor of 10. That's why I changed it and initially only preview images are loaded. Thanks for the food for thought!

  2. I really like the new look – especially the home page. Only the justification (i.e. the sometimes large holes between the words) bothers me a bit... but that's purely a matter of taste... 😉

  3. I don't like the new design (yet). I'm sitting at a 24″ monitor, but I can only see three small columns. The text itself is in a column and I have to scroll very often. It's a bit like a newspaper that only has a single column.

Let's see what the page looks like when the blog is filled with articles again.

      1. Yes, I noticed that too. The homepage looks really great - even if I personally don't like the fact that new content is constantly being reloaded - but that's a matter of taste.
        What I meant was this:
If I look at the article about the D800, I see a column of text and lots of white on the right. Like here too. The complete text is displayed in one column, as are the comments. Wouldn't it make more sense to have the text automatically wrap to the next column, like in a newspaper? Assuming, of course, that this could be done using programming technology.

  4. I really like it, especially the navigation that can be displayed, great! But I have to agree with TEA TIME. If, like here on this page, you only have one or two images but a lot of text, scrolling while reading is annoying. But you want to show photos and it's much better now than before.

  5. Hi Stefan,

an honest feedback. I (unfortunately) don’t really like masonry in this – your – context. For me, a design like this works for pure photo pages without text (e.g. Paul Ripke or in my inspiration corner http://leichtscharf.de/inspiration/). Things get quite confusing with text. Your old site was much more straightforward. The very limited comment threads don't really help with clarity either.

All in all, the overall picture is quite messy. A little tip that could counteract this a little: Try displaying the headings in bold or highlighted in color, so the eye would then have a few anchor points and it would be easier to distinguish between the individual articles.

    Best Regards

  6. Hello Stefan

I was so cheeky and bought this (in my opinion very nice) template and now want to use it for my blog:
    http://www.samueltruempy.ch/blog

Now I've been trying all the time to make it look similar to yours. This means that one image per post is displayed on the page itself and you can click on it to get to the post. Unfortunately, all attempts so far have turned out to be unsuccessful and I'm on the verge of going crazy! Well, I thought I'd just ask here how you did it...

Did you customize everything with the Theme Options or do you need something additional? For me it also shows two galleries in each post: one in the middle and one at the bottom left next to the text. I don't know where that comes from either. It doesn't really make much sense.

Well, maybe you can give me a helpful tip, because your blog looks the way it should, or rather what this skin should actually look like.

Thank you very much and kind regards
    Samuel

    1. Hello Samuel,

Do you know that the developer of the theme runs a great support forum? You can find the link in the readme file - sorry, I'm traveling right now and don't have it with me.

You know that you have to specify an article image so that the image is displayed on the homepage? You know you don't have to embed the gallery to view it?
In order for the link in the image to work, I changed the corresponding php template.

      Hope I could help you.

      Regards
      Stefan
