I enjoy working as a wedding photographer so much that I'm a little sad now. Yesterday I handed over my last wedding report for 2011 to a happy couple. It comforts me that, looking back, I can look back on almost two dozen fantastic couples this year. It was an absolute pleasure every time, wonderful moments by pressing the shutter button immortality to help.
I will show you one or two weddings here, because only now will I be able to take the time to take some pictures of my assignments as Wedding photographer choose, present it to the couple for approval and then show it here in the blog. Although my couples voluntarily sign to me before the wedding that I can use their wedding images for myself and my websites, it is extremely important to me to give the couples the final say on the publication of their images. That has something for me with respectful treatment to do. My job as a wedding photographer is particularly successful for me when I am commissioned as a stranger and can deliver my pictures as a friend. And among friends it is natural to discuss the publication of pictures.
Today I am showing you a picture of that last job as a wedding photographer in 2011, because I want to do a little “advertising” for my Workshop about light want to do - and because I and the bride and groom like it very much.
The two of them really wanted a picture with the typical one Hamburg in the background and had already chosen the location. This is the advantage of being allowed to accompany photographers at their wedding. Well, and then we stood there and the bright sun came diagonally from behind. Two years ago I would probably have worked up a sweat or sat for hours in post-production. But now, as a wedding photographer, I have a repertoire that I can easily call upon in such situations. I see the problem and guess the solution - the rest is then quickly taken care of.
Here I built quickly two flashes and a transmitted light umbrella on a boom and stuck mine SU-800 on my camera. I tried with 1/2 flash power, but that wasn't enough. So the two SB-900 flashes had full power and I was able to concentrate fully on the bride and groom.
So I was able to see the unedited image - along with other selected images of the Couple shoots – later show it on my laptop when receiving.
I'll show you the edited version here, as I find it suitable for this bridal couple, for this picture and for this day. And because I know that image editing is always a matter of taste, you can also see the almost unedited version here.
And yes, I know, an hour or two later the position of the sun would have been even better...
A nice article, Stefan. It's nice for me to learn that even experienced photographers "struggle" with the light. I've been photographing people for about a year now. A very beautiful subject. Wedding photography is something very special and I'm also fascinated by it.
Except for the frame, the way the picture was processed is exactly my taste!
In the area of flowers, I would have tried to turn up the “definition” (I think that’s what it’s called in Aperture in German, right?) a bit.
😉 cheers Felix
Opinions obviously differ when it comes to frames - so I'm glad that you at least like the rest 😉
