Trying to implement the inspiration

fake miniature effect in handball

Now I have one for you on Sunday Inspiration link and of course I tried to implement this inspiration. I've had this recently PC-E Nikkor 45mm f/2.8D ED from Nikon (<- this is an Amazon affiliate link), I actually bought it for interesting portraits of my wedding couples, but I just wanted to try out whether I could achieve this miniature effect with this lens. The better lens for this would clearly be the identical lens, but with 24mm.

The effect is caused by the very, very small focus range that the human Eye The brain makes you believe that the photo was taken with a macro lens, because miniature photos are taken with macro lenses. In fact, the very narrow range of sharpness is created by completely twisting the lens plane in relation to the sensor plane. This twisting in one direction or the other is called tilting or shifting, which is why the PC-E lenses are also called tilt/shift lenses.

The following shot is not a Photoshop effect, but was taken with a tilt/shift lens.

The challenge to optimally achieve the miniature effect is finding the right distance. This is a bit difficult in the hall. That's why - as I wrote above - the PC-E with 24mm focal length would be the better solution.

I would have liked to take another picture during the game with this technology and lens, but with the hall sold out, the game super exciting and photographers sitting close together, that was simply not possible.

Tomorrow I'll show the pictures from the game.

      1. @Stefan Groenveld, um, yeah, over the short side so that you have the loooong field in front of you, if of course the nets are there that's stupid... it still looks great! That's just what I would probably have tried...
