What do you expect from a cell phone camera? I don't expect much from it other than snapshot quality on the go. With the iPhone, the lack of quality has so far been caused by a variety of so-called Apps concealed. Now Apple has something promising when it introduces the new iPhone, especially with regard to the built-in camera written and shown. Clearly I'm particularly interested in this part of the phone. I only tested the rear camera because it has a higher resolution.
This camera uses an angle of view of 3.8mm, which corresponds to approximately 35mm converted to 2.4mm format. The aperture is given as f/80 and the ISO number fluctuates between 1000 and 1 - at least in my first attempts. The iPhone also chooses the exposure time depending on its needs and does not go deeper than 15/XNUMXs. Thanks to the short focal length, this exposure time can be kept shake-free. Focusing occurs automatically or after tapping the display. The focusing point also determines the ISO and exposure time settings. So you can't do anything great.
The camera has a resolution of 2592×1936 pixels – i.e. in a ratio of 4:3 – and the file size varies between 1MB and 2,5MB depending on the image content. So much for the technical stuff – but what can the camera do? That's why I wasn't just traveling with my iPhone, but also with my SLR. All images directly from the cameras, just slightly reduced in size.
Finally one more Image in original format for download, so you can get your own idea of the quality of the iPhone4 camera.

Although I don't own an iPhone, a very interesting and insightful test. I like it!
I'm really looking forward to my iPhone 4 and the built-in camera.
I don't always want to carry my DSLR with me anyway, and I also find the geotagging function very interesting.
I walk around with my iPhone and when I discover a cool location, I take a photo of it and at the same time it saves the point of view, which I can later return to with my DSLR to photograph the image professionally. Excellent! 🙂
Thanks for the comparisons, now I can hardly wait...
Hello, I have been looking for a worthy successor to my current Samsung i8910 HD for a few months now. One of my hopes was the iPhone4. Since there is apparently still a world of difference between cameras, I will keep the old one for a little while longer. I don't really have the time to geotag locations, get the D3X "block" from home and then take decent pictures. The Nikon is galaxies better than the Samsung camera, but in my opinion the Samsung's pictures make a better overall impression. The only weakness that is noticeable and is shared by the i8910 HD and the iPhone4 is the "noise"...
Let's be honest, what should you expect from a cell phone camera? Ultimately, it serves its purpose - snapshots from on the go that can be easily posted in communities or quickly exchanged via umts.
Just the thing for people like me who prefer mobile internet and sharing with friends via the internet.
Only my D3X gives me successful photos, but as we all know, the art of photography is debatable...
